By rebuilt you mean executing build method or recreating stateful widget's state? Stateful widget's state gets rebuilt only when widget's place in the hierarchy changes or when its key changes. If you wanna display any changes in your widget, you need to call the setState().

I believe any of those has nothing to do with extending anything :)
